To pre-register as a student for firearms safety class, you must be 11 years old on or before the start of the classroom instruction.
Please check other requirements under the Course tab and the Classroom tab at the top of this page, including required attendance of classes.
Pre-registration does not guarantee enrollment into the class, however, it does eliminate the need to stand in line for hours to register, as only pre-registered students will be allowed to register for class during the initial registration time (scheduled for April 9, 2012). If a pre-registered student does not complete the registration on the Registration Date, pre-registered students on a waiting list will be contacted and encouraged to register. Any pre-registered student that does not register on the Registration Date, will be placed at the bottom of the waiting list.
On the Registration Day, it will take about 15 minutes to complete the registration forms, pay the fee, and obtain classroom handouts. For any student under the age of 18, a parent or authorized guardian must be with the student to complete the registration forms.
DNR Firearms Certification is required of anyone born after December 31, 1979 to purchase a hunting license in Minnesota. Check requirements in other states.
Upon completion of the information below, you will be sent an e-mail that confirms that you have pre-registered and provides the date and time for the formal registration. A copy of the e-mail must be presented at the time of formal registration to verify that you have pre-registered.
If you know in advance you will not be able to complete the registration on the formal registration date, please contact an instructor immediately; alternative arrangements may be possible.
If the e-mail response indicates you are on a waiting list, you should not come to the formal registration unless you are called by an instructor. Make sure to provide a phone number where you can be reached in the evening and be prepared to come to the formal registration on very short notice.
